Throughout this period, Ted was also writing and publishing articles in the technical press. These included authorative articles on enclosure design, cone materials and stereophony. Some of these articles are available as downloads from the RESOURCES page.

His work on loudspeaker imaging continues to this day, with new developments on the horizon.

Consultancy

During the next few years, several companies approached Ted to advise and undertake development projects for them and it became evident that know-how was a saleable commodity. He formed a design consultancy called Nucleus to take advantage of this.

Such work involved Ted is a wide and diverse range of projects such as: the use of titanium as a cone material, advising on sound absorption in buildings, the development of a phono cartridge using a conductive fluid and pressure devices for use in the medical industry.

Toward the end of this period Ted was commissioned to design and manufacture a complete mid-fi system including a record player, amplifier, tuner and tape player together with a surround sound option.

This included finding premises, setting up a manufacturing facility and hiring and training operatives. This was Ted's first foray into solid-state design but he was a quick learner and followed this with a small separate Hi-Fi class A amplifier.
